Mintyai works with your FreeAgent account through FreeAgent's official API. You approve the connection on FreeAgent's own website, so Mintyai never sees your FreeAgent password.
Connect your account
- Sign in to Mintyai. During onboarding, choose Connect FreeAgent.
- You are sent to FreeAgent. Sign in there and approve access for Mintyai.
- FreeAgent sends you back to Mintyai, which loads your expense categories and starts syncing your bank transactions in the background.
The first sync can take a few minutes if you have many bank accounts.
Choose which transactions to sync
In Settings, under transaction sync, choose:
- Unexplained: only transactions that still need an explanation or are marked for review in FreeAgent. This suits most people.
- All without attachments: every outgoing transaction that has no receipt attached, including ones that are already explained. Use this if you explain transactions in FreeAgent first and want Mintyai to find the receipts afterwards.
Mintyai only syncs money going out, and keeps up to the 1,500 most recent transactions.
Reconnect
If FreeAgent stops accepting Mintyai's access (for example, after you revoke it in FreeAgent), Mintyai emails you. Open Settings and choose Reconnect. Your existing transactions, receipts and matches stay as they are.
Questions
Does Mintyai see my FreeAgent password?
No. You sign in on FreeAgent's own website and FreeAgent gives Mintyai an access token. Your password never passes through Mintyai.
Where are my FreeAgent access tokens kept?
In a dedicated secrets manager, not in the Mintyai database.
What if the connection stops working?
Mintyai emails you if FreeAgent rejects its access. Open Settings and choose Reconnect to sign in to FreeAgent again. Your synced transactions and matches are kept.
